The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a fresh update to the NEET UG 2025 counselling seat matrix, announcing a reduction of 50 seats from the previously published total. With this revision, the total number of MBBS and BDS seats available for the 2025–26 academic year now stands at 1,28,875, compared to the earlier figure of 1,28,925.
According to the NMC, 11,350 new seats have been added for the upcoming academic session, excluding those under AIIMS and JIPMER. However, the overall figure dropped slightly following corrections and a reduction of 456 seats during the renewal process.
The commission explained that a typographical error had occurred while updating the seat data for Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Gujarat, and Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences, a newly established college. These discrepancies have now been corrected in the official records.
Earlier, the NMC had listed a total of 1,28,925 seats, mistakenly showing an addition of 11,400 seats. The revised update clarifies that the accurate increase is 11,350 seats, bringing the corrected total to 1,28,875.
Stray Round Counselling Starts November 4
The stray vacancy round of NEET UG 2025 counselling will commence on November 4. Candidates who were not allotted seats in previous rounds can register for this phase, during which participating colleges will release their tentative vacancy lists.
Applicants must report to their allotted institutions with the necessary documents to confirm admission. Failure to do so may result in loss of seats, a one-year bar from appearing for NEET, and forfeiture of counselling fees.
Why Revision Matters
Even minor adjustments in seat numbers can significantly influence admission outcomes in a highly competitive process like NEET UG. The updated data ensures that students can plan their choices accurately as the final counselling rounds begin.
