Tamil Nadu MBBS Admissions: Admission Criteria

The admission criteria for Tamil Nadu MBBS 2023 are as follows:

Admission under 15% AIQ Seats:

Counseling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats is held by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
The counseling process consists of two rounds, and admission is based on NEET scores.

Admission under 85% of State Quota Seats:

Tamil Nadu MBBS Admissions: Eligibility Criteria

Domicile Candidate:

Candidates who have completed their education from classes 6 to 12 within the state do not need to submit a nativity certificate. Instead, they must provide their parent’s birth certificate, ration card, SSLC/10/12 certificate, or a non-graduate certificate if their parents are illiterate.
Candidates from other states currently residing in Tamil Nadu are not considered domiciles and must seek admission in the open category.

Education History:

Candidates who have partially completed their education from class 6 to 12 in another state but are domiciled in Tamil Nadu should submit the documents above of their parents. A permanent residence certificate is not a substitute for the nativity certificate.

Age Limit:

Candidates must be at least 17 years old to apply.
For NEET, the upper age limit is 25 years for the general category and 30 years for SC, ST, and OBC candidates.

Tamil Nadu MBBS Counseling Process 2023

General Counseling Instructions:
a) The counseling schedule will be available on the official websites.
b) During counseling registration, all candidates must pay a refundable Security Deposit of Rs. 1,00,000/- via the Online Payment Portal for Management Quota, including Minority/NRI Category seats in Self-Financing Medical/Dental Colleges.

The Security Deposit will be refunded after all counseling rounds if the candidate doesn’t secure a seat.
Candidates discontinuing the course after the 2nd round will forfeit the Registration and tuition fees.
The security deposit will be refunded only to the account from which it was initiated.

c) Candidates should register and lock their choice of seats for each counseling round within the stipulated date and time.
d) Once choices are locked during online counseling, they cannot be changed later.
e) Admission to MBBS/BDS courses will be based on rank and the candidate’s preferences.
f) Candidates must produce their ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES in person when they join their selected colleges, along with scanned copies of the original certificates.
g) Candidates should not share their Login ID, Password, or OTP with others.
h) Mutual transfers or individual requests for college transfers will not be permitted.
i) Provisionally selected candidates can download the provisional allotment order by paying the tuition fee.

Candidates joining up to Round 2 of All India Quota or State Quota are not eligible for further rounds from the academic year 2023-2024.

Round 1 of Online Counseling:
a) Candidates must pay a non-refundable Rs. 1,000/- Registration Fee and a refundable Rs. 1,00,000/- Security Deposit via the online bank payment portal.
b) Candidates who haven’t registered in Round 1 cannot attend Round 2.
c) Candidates who have taken a seat but haven’t joined or have resigned from the course can attend subsequent rounds.
d) Re-allotment is permitted only in Round 2.

III. Round 2 of Counseling:

No fresh registrations are allowed in Round 2.

Tamil Nadu PG Admissions in Medical Colleges of Tamil Nadu 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for Post Graduate Degree/Diploma Courses must qualify for NEET PG 2023.
They should be Indian citizens and complete their MBBS course, including the Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI), in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu nativity applicants must upload proof of nativity and community reservation certificates.

Upload clear, self-attested photocopies of required certificates/documents.

Tamil Nadu Medical PG Counseling Procedure 2023

There are four rounds of counseling: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up, and Stray round.
Mutual transfers or individual requests for transfers won’t be allowed.
Admission to PG Degree/Diploma courses will be through ONLINE COUNSELLING based on rank and reservation rules.
Candidates who haven’t registered and are choice-locked in the 1st round can participate in subsequent rounds.
Candidates who took a seat in the 1st round but didn’t join can attend the 2nd round.
Re-allotment is allowed in the 2nd round based on rank and reservation.
Selected candidates must declare that any suppression of facts will lead to admission forfeiture.
Any later discovery of fact suppression can result in admission cancellation.
When joining, Original certificates, including NEET PG 2023 documents, Aadhar card/PAN card/Voter ID, and others, must be provided.
Unauthorized absence for 15 or more days will be treated as discontinuation, and vacancies will be filled accordingly.
Tuition fees are non-refundable if a candidate discontinues beyond the resignation period.
Candidates discontinuing after the second round of All India Quota counseling should pay discontinuation fees.
State Quota candidates discontinuing after the stipulated resignation period must also pay discontinuation fees.
Discontinuation fees for PG Diploma Courses: Rs. 10 lakh, P.G. Degree Courses: Rs. 15 lakh.
Failure to pay the discontinuation fee will result in the retention of original certificates by the institutions.

First Round of Counseling

Candidates in ONLINE COUNSELLING for PG Degree/Diploma Courses must pay a non-refundable registration fee of ₹1,000/- online through our official website.
Candidates allotted in the first round should download their provisional allotment order and join the course at the specified Medical College with the required documents by the mentioned date and time.

Second Round of Counseling

The second round of online counseling addresses vacancies due to non-joining, non-allotment, and newly sanctioned seats.
Candidates who didn’t register or choice-lock in the 1st round can participate in the 2nd round.
Candidates who took a seat in the 1st round but didn’t join or resigned are eligible for the 2nd round.
As per Supreme Court directions, candidates who retained their seats beyond the stipulated date cannot vacate them.
Candidates who joined in round 2 or subsequent rounds cannot resign or participate in further counseling.
State Quota candidates discontinuing after the stipulated date (after the 2nd round) must pay discontinuation fees.
Forfeiture of fees occurs if candidates are allotted but don’t download the allotment order and don’t join the course.
Virtual vacancies from Round 1 are shown in Round 2 and can be filled if the originally allotted candidate vacates the seat during Round 2.

Mop-Up Round

Vacancies after the second round of ONLINE COUNSELLING will be filled through MOP-UP ONLINE COUNSELLING.
If a candidate is allotted and joins any seat in the first and second rounds, they are not eligible for Mop-up counseling and subsequent rounds.
Restriction has been implemented to prevent the blocking of seats.
Candidates allotted in the Mop-up round in State counseling cannot participate in further counseling rounds.
Registration fee for the Mop-up round is Rs. 1000/-
Eligibility for Mop-up round: Candidates not allotted in rounds I and II or those allotted but didn’t join in State or All India Quota.

The directive of the Supreme Court prohibits candidates from vacating seats once joined, similar to candidates in All India Quota Round II counseling.

Stray Round

Registration fee for the stray vacancy round is Rs. 1000/-

Eligible candidates for the stray vacancy round:

i) Those not allotted in Round I, Round II, and Mop-up counseling.
ii) Candidates allotted but not joined in Round I, Round II, and Mop-up rounds of State Quota and All India Quota.

iii) Candidates who haven’t registered or choice-locked in the First, Second, or Mop-up round ONLINE COUNSELLING.

Non-eligible candidates for the stray vacancy round:

i) Candidates who joined in Round I, Round II, and Mop-up rounds of State Counselling.
ii) Candidates who joined in Round I & Round II in All India Quota/Deemed university/DNB (conducted by NBE) and Mop-up round.

In the Stray Vacancy Round, if a candidate is allotted a PG seat as per their choice, they must join without fail.

Tamilnadu PG Admissions in Medical Colleges of Tamilnadu 2023:
Method of Selection and Admission

Seat Distribution:

50% of Government Medical Colleges University seats are for All India Quota, while the remaining 50% are under State Quota.
Self-Financing Medical Colleges follow state policies and NMC regulations for seat sharing.
In the State Government quota, 50% of seats go to in-service candidates, and the other 50% are open to service and non-service candidates.
The allocation criteria are determined based on specific guidelines and court orders.

University Affiliation:

Allotment is only for seats affiliated with the Tamil Nadu M.G.R Medical University for 2023-2024.

Responsibility for Approvals:

The Selection Committee is not responsible for National Medical Commission approvals, infrastructure, or college regulations. Candidates should verify this information on college websites.

Selection Criteria:

Selection is based on merit and follows the Rule of Reservation/200-point Roster method.
The roster method applies for 1 to 8 seats in each branch, subject to the Supreme Court verdict.
If only one seat is available in a specialty, it’s allocated based on rank.
Reservation percentages include Open Competition, Backward Class, Most Backward Class/De-notified Community, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and sub-categories.
If no eligible service candidates opt for PG courses, seats go to eligible General category candidates.

Special Category:

Person with Disabilities (PWD) candidates have a separate allotment ahead of the General category.
If there are insufficient eligible PWD candidates, those seats revert to the General category.

SCA, SC, BCM Reservations:

Candidates from other related categories may fill any unused seats in reserved categories based on merit.

Arunthathiyar Candidates:

Excess-qualified Arunthathiyar candidates may compete with Scheduled Castes other than Arunthathiyars in inter-se merit.

Special Category

SEATS RESERVED FOR PERSONS WITH BENCHMARKED DISABILITIES:

Reservation Percentage:

5% of the total seats in Government Medical Institutions are reserved for Persons with disabilities.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates with disabilities ranging from 40% to 80% are considered eligible for reservation.
Candidates with disabilities exceeding 80% are not eligible for reservation.
Candidates with disabilities less than 40% are also not eligible for reservation.

Medical Evaluation:

Candidates must undergo a medical evaluation to assess the nature and extent of their disability.
This evaluation is conducted by the Regional Medical Board at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.
The medical certificate verifying the disability must be obtained within three months before submitting the admission application.

Ineligibility Criteria:

Candidates with significant locomotor disabilities, with or without other disabilities, may be declared ineligible for admission, which may hinder their ability to pursue and complete the course satisfactorily.
Candidates must have both hands intact, with intact sensations, sufficient strength, and a range of motion to be eligible for a medical course.

Stipend/Salary

For candidates selected for Post Graduate Degree/Diploma Courses, the payment details are as follows:

Non-Service Candidates:

Non-service candidates selected for these courses will receive a stipend per the Government Orders issued by the government.
The stipend amount will follow the norms of the institution concerned, which may vary.

Service Candidates:

Service candidates selected for Post Graduate Degree/Diploma Courses in Government Medical Colleges will receive a salary per the Government Orders issued by the government.
The salary amount will be per the government’s regulations and may vary based on specific criteria.

How to apply for UG (MBBS/BDS) Medical admissions in Tamil Nadu?After the NEET-UG 2023 results are out, there will be a notification on tnhealth.org and tnmedicalselection.org for UG medical admissions in Tamil Nadu. Candidates should create a unique User ID and Password after logging in using their Mobile No (For OTP). The application should be submitted online.
How do I register for the counseling?After the Merit List is published, candidates must register for counseling by paying a non-refundable registration Fee of Rs.1000/- on the website using the same credentials (User ID, Password, Mobile No) used during the application process. Registration is allowed before Round 1, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Round. Fresh registration is not allowed before Round 2.
How do I fill out the Choice filling form on the website?Candidates should log on to https://tnmedicalselection.net/ to register and fill in their choices. Preparing a tentative list of preferred colleges before filling choices online is advisable. Candidates should thoroughly read and understand the prospectus before making their choices.
Can a candidate participate in Round 2 without submitting fresh choices (based on choices submitted before Round 1?Fresh choice submission by eligible candidates is necessary for consideration for seat allotment during any round. If a candidate does not submit fresh choice(s) during the choice-filling period, they will not be considered for seat allotment in Round 2 and will retain the already joined seat, if any.
If a candidate does not report at the allotted college during Round 2, must he register again for the Mop Up round?Yes, in such a case, the security Deposit and Registration Fee will be forfeited, and the candidate must register fresh for the Mop-Up round with a new payment.
If I opt to participate in the second round of counseling, will my allotted seat from the first round be canceled?If you are not allotted any seat in the second round of counseling, you will retain the earlier allotted seat from Round 1 if you have already joined. However, if you get an upgraded seat in the second round, the earlier allotted seat in Round 1 will be automatically canceled and given to another candidate. So, choose your preferences carefully for the second round.
What documents are required when joining/reporting in the allotted Medical/Dental College?Original documents and attested photocopies are required for admission to medical/dental colleges. These documents include the NEET-UG 2023 Admit card and Score card, Class X, Class XI, and H.S.C. Mark sheets, Transfer certificate, and Certificate for study proof from VI STD. to XII STD.
What are the various fees to be paid during the counseling process?During counseling registration, students need to pay two different types of fees:
Non-Refundable Registration fee: Rs.1000/-

For Management and NRI Quota Seats in Self Financing Medical/Dental Colleges: Rs. 1,00,000/-

Tuition Fees, which vary (as mentioned in clause 19)
If I forget the password that I created during the registration process, how can I retrieve it?To retrieve a forgotten password, enter the information filled in during registration, including the security question and answer provided during New Candidate registration. The system will validate the entries with the registered candidate’s database, allowing the candidate to create a new password if the entries match.
