Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences was founded in 2000. In 1998, the Alluri Sitarama Raju Educational Society was set up as a charitable trust to promote health and medical education in Eluru, West Godavari District. Known as ASRAM College, it includes Asram College of Nursing and Para Medical Courses College. Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences was named after freedom fighter Alluri Sitaramaraju.
The campus, sprawling across 100 acres near National Highway no.5, is 3 km from Eluru Railway station and 35 km from Gannavaram Airport. With initial approval for 100 MBBS students annually, the ASRAM Medical College gained necessary permissions from the National Medical Commission, the Government of India, and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Affiliated with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, it introduced postgraduate courses in 2007. All major medical and surgical specialties were subsequently added. In the Academic year 2009-10, the annual intake of MBBS students increased to 150, with recognition from the National Medical Commission for this expansion.

Internship
Upon completing their Final Examination, students must undergo a compulsory 12-month internship at the Institute rotating. Graduates are expected to apply theoretical knowledge to practical skills under supervision, making themselves competent enough to handle all emergencies and provide basic medical consultation independently. The Internship program is tailored to enable the graduate to diagnose and treat common clinical diseases, make appropriate referrals to higher-level healthcare facilities, and efficiently use essential drugs, infusions, blood, or its substitutes and laboratory services. Additionally, the graduate is trained to handle medical, surgical, obstetric, neonatal, and pediatric emergencies and develops leadership skills to lead the health team.
