The petitioners requested an inquiry into the alleged NEET question paper leak, citing instances where candidates from specific centers obtained perfect scores.
On Tuesday, a Vacation Bench of the Supreme Court summoned a response from the National Testing Agency (NTA) following allegations of question paper leaks in the NEET-2024 examination. Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, presiding over the Bench, decided not to halt the ongoing counseling process but scheduled a hearing for July 8 after the court reconvenes post-summer vacations.
Expressing concern over the integrity of the NEET exams, Justice Amanullah emphasized the need for clarity from the NTA regarding the allegations. Advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara, representing ten student petitioners, including Shivangi Mishra, urged the court to suspend the counseling process. However, Justice Nath insisted that counseling proceed as planned.
Nedumpara’s plea for an investigation into the alleged question paper leak highlighted instances where candidates from specific centers obtained perfect scores, resulting in the denial of admission to deserving students. He stressed the gravity of the situation, citing the participation of twenty-four lakh students in the NEET examination and the significant public interest involved.
In a letter addressed to the Supreme Court Registry, Nedumpara underscored the urgency of the matter, calling for the cancellation of the entire examination and a fresh one. He pointed out anomalies in the results, noting a drastic increase in the number of students scoring exceptionally high marks compared to previous years, which raised suspicions of foul play.
The petitioners, along with opposition voices, alleged widespread irregularities in the conduct of the exam, adding fuel to the demand for a thorough investigation and corrective action.
